Tennengauer Almkäse Festival for the 5th time
That was Kulinarik Pur at the GenussBauernhof Zur Sonnleit`n last Sunday in Abtenau. There was so much on offer at the 5th Tennengauer Almkäse Fest that it’s hard to sum it up in a few words. A try: regional, quality, tradition & coziness.
Yes, that’s how I would describe the festival around the GenussRegion Tennengauer Almkäse & Berglamm. But see for yourself what the mood was. At the beginning – here the great view from the festival to Abtenau…
Start at the Antonius Chapel
The festival officially began at 10:30 a.m. with the Court Mass at the Antonius Chapel – musically framed by the Abtenauer Dreiklang. Despite the spontaneous rain clouds in the sky, many guests joined in the celebration of the Holy Mass on the hill and looked forward to the dry parlor afterwards.
Shortly after, the sky opened up over the Lammertal and the atmosphere in the rustic inn and on the large panoramic terrace was great.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch an unsere ORF Radio Salzburg Gewinnerin aus Hallwang!
Franz Pölzleitner überreichte Anna Rettenbacher einen GenussRucksack mit vielen Köstlichkeiten aus der GenussRegion Tennengauer Almkäse & Berglamm.
Among the visitors were also some guests of honor, such as local chief and tourism association chairman Bgm. Hans Schnitzhofer and his counterparts of the neighboring communities: Bgm. Sepp Schwarzenbacher (Annaberg), Bgm. Hannes Schlager (St. Martin) and Bgm. Friedrich Strubreiter (Scheffau). Also present were local farmers’ chairman Christian Eder, Manfred Siller (deputy chairman of Bio Austria) and Franz Pölzleitner, managing director of Gästeservice Tennengau.
Regional products for sale
But especially at the GenussMarkt of the Tennengauer Almkäse producers and BerglammBauern (mountain lamb farmers), it was a hustle and bustle. There was tasting, shopping and eager discussion. Thus, the visitors learned a lot about the different products, forms of production and preparation possibilities. No other GenussRegion in Austria has as many qualified cheese sommeliers (15 GenussPartners) as the Tennengau – who are happy to pass on their certified knowledge. At the market were offered so not only delicacies from the Sonnleit`n farm store, but also the best cheeses from mainly best BIO-Heumlich from the village cheese dairy Pötzelsberger from Adnet, the organic farm cheese dairy Fürstenhof from Kuchl, the fish farm “The goat paradise” from Annaberg, the hand cheese dairy Wimmer from Oberalm and the farm cheese dairy Schmiedbauer from Bad Vigaun.
The hikers were rewarded for your ascent not only with unique culinary delights and beautiful views, but also with the best folk music of the “Hirschanger-Musi” from Bavaria. In addition also host Toni Gschwandtner sang with the Abtenauer Stubn`hocker and the Abtenauer Dreiklang sang some songs not only at the court fair.
In the afternoon the Trachtenverein “Traunstoana” presented regional folk dances and Schuhplatter. Especially popular here was the “Schammerl” where two guests also participated. This was rewarded with a schnapps.
Culinary the guests were spoiled by the Zur Sonnleit`n team, with homemade and regional delicacies, such as with the Fleischkrapfen, the Brettljause and the oven-fresh pork roast. A special experience awaited the children – a ride on the rustic children’s carousel at the Troadkästen. Hans-Peter Seethaler led through the program and the guests enjoyed the great ambience until the evening hours.
Experience pleasure in the Tennengau – no problem!
If you now also have a desire for pleasure, you are in good hands in the Tennengau. Whether hiking to the KäseAlm, GenussMenü in the inn, make your own cheese at the Fürstenhof or a tasting at the Schmiedbauer, the next GenussMarkt with the best regional products is at the HeuART Festival on Sunday, August 31, 2014 in Scheffau am Tennengebirge. There, the Lammertaler HeuART Festival impresses numerous visitors again with the world’s largest hay figure parade, the enjoyment & craft market and the multi-day music program in the festival tent.
