I think I’m being kissed by a donkey…
… or no, it was the other way around on Sunday at the HeuART2015! And yes, I was there again! Even though it was spontaneous, we left at short notice without breakfast and we didn’t get to see the first few hay figures during the parade, it was again a wonderful festival – this time in Russbach at Pass Gschütt.
With my camera again everything was captured what came in front of my lens – for this even the donkey had to keep still :-)
Welcome to Russbach at Pass Gschütt! As every year, hundreds of spectators were attracted to the Lammer Valley. No matter what age, everyone was enthralled by the works of art made of hay, decorated horse-drawn carriages and the hand and enjoyment market. Also numerous guests of honor could be welcomed again. In addition to the many mayors from the Tennengau region, provincial councilor Hans Mayr also enjoyed the view of the action from the VIP stand.
I was particularly fascinated by the extensive GenussMarkt of the GenussRegion Tennengauer Almkäse & Berglamm, and the craft market through the water park. During a leisurely walk through the crowds (even with a stroller no problem), I had to linger a little longer some sales booth and also strike a few times.
Participants included craftsmen from Tennengau, Kleinarl and Gosau, from Adnet the stonemason Klappacher and the village cheese dairy Pötzelsberger, the cheese dairy Wimmer from Oberalm, from Abtenau the GenussBauernhof Zur Sonnleit`n and the fruit farm Buchegger. And much more. From small homemade souvenirs to more expensive hand-stitched deer leather pants, there was something for everyone.
Hunger and thirst could be satisfied at the numerous clubs, pubs and in the large festival tent. From horse liver cheese, goulash, homemade pies, ice cream and the ever-popular Grillhenderl, there was everything your heart desired. We were drawn to the Russbacher Bäuerinnen, who offered fresh meat fritters. You could also see how the grass used to be hung up to dry on the riders of the Swedes in Russbach.
Hay art at the highest level
But now to the most important of the whole feast – the many hay figures made in painstaking hours and by hand. My personal TOP haymakers this year were definitely the Mecki-Musi from the Trachtenmusikkapelle Russbach with the haymakers Gaby Quehenberger and Anita Höll. I especially like the small details like the mesh in the clarinetist’s hair or the medal from the baton leader. But also the other more than 30 hay figures were made with a lot of creativity and love and presented with great joy at the parade.
And if that was not enough for you, you could get information about the attractions in the village and the region at the Russbach Tourism Association or at the HeuART information booth in front of it. Just on the way to the parking lot, a few ideas for the next trip caught my eye. On the one hand, there is the Russbach water park and the graduation plant in the village, and on the other hand, the Russbach Hornbahn, which invites you to go hiking. And on the way home there was much more to discover….the Karkogel in Abtenau, the Lammerklamm in Scheffau and and…
